Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced that it expects its T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS asset management system for private fleets and for-hire carriers to be available this spring in configurations for flatbed trailers and containers. New features of the advanced T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS system include a low-profile antenna that can be mounted externally on van trailers and flatbed trailers, a self-contained solar- powered battery option for containers and enhanced mobile coverage throughout North America.
“Qualcomm is committed to helping address the business needs of our customers,” said Norm Ellis, vice president and general manager of transportation and logistics for Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. “We're excited to expand our T2 TrailerTRACS system to help our customers manage increasingly diverse fleets with the same level of security, visibility and efficiency as they do with our T2 system on traditional trailers today.”
The new configurations of the T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS system increase the platform's flexibility, making it easier for carriers to customize their fleets. A low-profile antenna for external mounting on van trailers and flatbed trailers provides the same robust level of multi-mode cellular and GPS performance as existing roof-mounted antennas for remote tracking and enhanced security. A completely self-contained solar-powered battery option enables dispatchers to track and monitor domestic intermodal containers.
Qualcomm's T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS asset management system is a standalone terrestrial platform that also can work in conjunction with the OmniTRACS® and OmniExpress® mobile communications solutions to offer rapid-status visibility into traditional, flatbed and van trailer fleets for improved fleet utilization and security. Automatic GPS location reports and alert data from cargo and door sensors can be generated whether the trailer is tethered or untethered, and is delivered to the customer using third-generation (3G) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless communications, and analog cellular technology with a recently-enhanced coverage footprint throughout North America. Customers can easily identify available or empty trailers or containers and this information helps to optimize equipment and freight inventory and reduce costly down time. Optional door and cargo sensors help prevent theft by sending alerts to dispatchers when a trailer or container's doors are opened or closed and indicating the presence or absence of cargo. If a theft does occur, GPS tracking will pinpoint the location of the equipment, regardless of whether it is attached to a tractor or parked in a yard.
Qualcomm Certified™ integrations with third-party transportation management software systems, including Add On Systems, Innovative Computing Corporation® and TMW Systems®, further strengthen the value of Qualcomm's advanced T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS system for customers. These transportation management software solutions automatically integrate updated trailer or container location and status information into the management system to provide convenient access and management of equipment and eliminate the need to monitor and collect information from multiple systems. Customers can realize the benefits of asset tracking quickly; accelerating their return on investment.
