Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced an agreement for customised user interface (UI) support, based on Qualcomm's uiOne platform, with Telecom New Zealand, a leading Australasian communications provider. To be known as “Themes,” the uiOne offering will initially be made available to Telecom's New Zealand customers with the Sanyo 7500 handset.
“Themes” represents an evolution of wallpapers and animated screensavers, allowing users to change both the background and the icons on the phone's three main screens: front/standby; main menu; and my favorites. “Themes” will cost NZ$4.95 to download.
“The fact that Telecom New Zealand is the first operator with plans to deploy the uiOne platform in the Asia Pacific region demonstrates its commitment to offering personalized 3G services to its subscribers,” said Bob Briggs, vice president of business relations and marketing for Qualcomm Internet Services. “As custom UIs continue to become a key focus for operators around the world seeking to differentiate their service offerings from competitors, the uiOne offering remains the most viable choice for operators wishing to develop and deploy an advanced user experience.”
