New BREW Developer Training Center Gives Access to Technical Resources and Support for Taiwan Developer CommunitySAN DIEGO
Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, and the Institute for Information Industry (III) today announced the establishment of a BREW developer training center in Taiwan. The new developer training center will give Taiwanese wireless application developers access to training materials, testing tools and tech support in developing applications and services for Qualcomm's BREW solution. The addition of the BREW developer training center is the first step in an ongoing collaboration between Qualcomm and III to accelerate the growth of the wireless market in Taiwan.
III is focused on enhancing advanced communications, location-based services (LBS) and multimedia technologies in partnership with other companies to improve Taiwan's contributions to the global wireless communications market. Qualcomm and III will hold a signing ceremony on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 to break ground on the BREW developer training center.
“Advanced mobile communications services are growing fast in Taiwan and we're pleased to be working with III to support this growth and bolster the BREW developer community with the opening of this training center,” said Tony Li, senior director of business development for Qualcomm. “Applications such as picture messaging, ringtones, games and other services have already gained a foothold in Taiwan. At Qualcomm, we feel that the introduction of new technologies that support higher data transmission rates will open the door for even more advanced services such as LBS, live video transmissions and music and video downloads. Qualcomm is committed to helping the Taiwanese mobile industry reach this next stage.”
“The value and success of mobile application services are evident in neighboring countries such as Japan and Korea. III, as an organization that promotes ICT and digital content, is determined to bring that value to our local market and improve technologies for the wireless industry in Taiwan,” said Dr. Ke, president for III. “We expect downloadable wireless applications and services, such as those developed for the BREW solution, to enhance the value of digital content services in Taiwan and provide consumers with more choices as well as new market opportunities for Taiwan's wireless industry.”
