Qualcomm products mentioned within this press release are offered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leader in providing wireless technology and solutions, will be joined today by U.S. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) to break ground on the Company's new Secure Network Operations Center on a 32-acre site in North Las Vegas' Cheyenne Technology Corridor. The high-security facility will enhance the critical infrastructure for technology solutions used by transportation fleets to track and help secure and protect high-risk and high-value cargo.

Qualcomm's new multiple-building facility will also operate state-of-the-art systems for its new MediaFLO network operations center, which will distribute advanced multimedia services to 3G digital handsets using Qualcomm's technologies. In addition, the facility will house a regional data center that will provide information technology infrastructure supporting company-wide expansion across Qualcomm's entire business. Qualcomm and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) are also establishing a collaborative relationship for work on homeland security initiatives.

A groundbreaking ceremony hosted by Qualcomm will occur at 10 a.m. today, July 5, highlighting the public security benefits and other positive impacts of Qualcomm's expanded presence in the area and also recognizing several individuals who have supported the project, including Sen. Reid. Joining Sen. Reid are Dr. Paul Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm; Michael Montandon, Mayor of North Las Vegas; and Dr. Carol Harter, President of UNLV.

“Nevada is proud to be a part of Qualcomm's efforts in applying wireless technologies to improve homeland security and highway transportation safety,” said Sen. Reid. “We expect to see significant technological advances in homeland security from this facility, with benefits extending well beyond the borders of this state to the entire country.”

For well over a decade, Qualcomm has been a pioneer in providing reliable and secure systems for tracking critical shipments. Qualcomm is the leading provider of mobile communications and tracking services for commercial carriers that transport munitions and other sensitive loads under oversight of the Defense Transportation Tracking System. Qualcomm's solution was the first to meet Department of Defense's stringent performance requirements, and has done so continuously since the late 1980s.

The new facility will enable Qualcomm to enhance its mobile data interchange capabilities, further increasing the Company's ability to help government and commercial carriers meet any new requirements that may evolve for shipment of other hazardous materials. Enhanced mobile data interchange capabilities could allow Qualcomm to alert commercial carriers to sensitive cargo theft and provide near real-time positioning and status information to law enforcement and other first responders to an incident.

“Our work in Nevada is an important part of what keeps Qualcomm at the forefront of the rapidly evolving requirements regarding enhanced transportation security,” said Dr. Paul Jacobs. “The significant expansion of our facilities is a testament to our ongoing support for the continued growth of North Las Vegas.”
