Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology and Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS), the world's leading independent publisher and developer of interactive entertainment software, today announced an agreement for EA to become a publisher of wireless games developed for Qualcomm's BREW solution. EA's premier roster of BREW games will feature popular titles, including Madden NFL 2006, The Sims™ 2 Mobile, Need for Speed™ Underground 2, Tiger Woods PGA Tour® 2006, EA SPORTS™ FIFA Football 2006, as well as Poppit!™, Turbo 21™ and Tri Peaks Solitaire from Pogo.com™. Additional games will be announced over the course of the year.
EA has a distinguished and proven reputation for creating high-quality games for consoles, PCs and handheld devices. As wireless gaming continues to gain momentum in the marketplace, the company's move to publish and develop BREW games is especially timely and strategic. Since BREW's introduction in 2001, Qualcomm estimates that more than 340 million BREW applications have been downloaded worldwide, a significant percentage of which are mobile games.
“We are very pleased to be working with EA as it extends many of its most exciting titles to users around the world with BREW mobile phones,” said Peggy Johnson, president of Qualcomm Internet Services. “EA's move into this space is also a strong validation of the mobile medium's proven revenue opportunity and enormous potential for continued growth, along with its increasing sophistication, particularly in the realms of 3D graphics, multiplayer and cross-platform gaming.”
“During the past several years, mobile gaming technologies have really taken off. The growth and opportunity in the mobile market has inspired us to bring some of our most popular game franchises to this exciting new medium,” said John Batter, vice president of Electronic Arts and general manager of EA Mobile. “As game developers, the combination of Qualcomm's BREW solution, the advent of advanced 3D graphics support and higher speed wireless networks such as CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and WCDMA/UMTS, are providing us the opportunity to create an entertaining and interactive experience for mobile game players worldwide.”
