Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leading provider of wireless data solutions, today announced that Cargo Tranporters, a national truckload carrier specializing in dry van freight, has signed an agreement to equip 1,000 of its trailers with Qualcomm’s T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS asset management solution. The T2 solution improves productivity by eliminating the need to manually determine the location and availability of trailers, resulting in a reduction of driver idle time and the maximization of trailer inventory utilization.
“We are delighted to provide Cargo Transporters with our advanced T2 asset tracking solution to enhance trailer visibility and increase cargo security,” said Norm Ellis, vice president and general manager of Transportation and Logistics for Qualcomm Wireless Business
Solutions. “Qualcomm is committed to making sure that its customers can effectively track their loads and ensure that valuable shipments arrive at their destinations safely.”
“By installing the T2 solution on our fleet of trailers, we are now able to detect when cargo is loaded or unloaded , which helps us to minimize trailer idle time,” said John Pope, CEO of Cargo Transporters. “Qualcomm is a leader in the transportation and logistics industry and its solutions are unparalleled; we know we are getting the best value for our dollar.”
The T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS solution is an advanced, stand-alone GPS/cellular system that offers near real-time visibility into trailer locations and operational events and provides vehicle position reporting for improved fleet utilization and security. Features include ruggedized on-board hardware, advanced power management, complete network and data delivery services and cargo and door sensors using state-of-the-art, multimode communications. T2 uses standard 3G CDMA and analog cellular technology to provide a broad North American coverage footprint to deliver automatic GPS location and status reports in addition to event alerts from optional geofence features and cargo and door sensors when tethered or untethered. Trailer management data from the T2 system can be integrated with dispatch and operations software using Qualcomm’s AS/400 or Web trailer fleet management software, allowing fleets to better analyze and plan trailer usage.
Cargo Transporters, part of CT Group, is a trucking operation with intrastate and interstate common and contract authority based in Claremont, N.C. The company specializes in truckload dry van freight with an emphasis on long term contracts with partner shippers. In addition, the company services those customers who require time definite or JIT service.
Cargo Transporters operates a fleet of over 400 tractors and 1,300 trailers, utilizing some of the most advanced systems of communications including EDI, interactive internet applications, and Qualcomm’s OmniTRACS? solution. Cargo Transporters is available on the Web at: www.cgor.com.
Since 1989, Qualcomm has provided its tethered tracking system to more than 35,000 trailers within the NAFTA region. TrailerTRACS? provides trailer ID, drop-and-hook notification, location, status and information when connected to an OmniTRACS equipped tractor. The T2 untethered trailer tracking solution offers these same features, plus a variety of additional options, including door and cargo sensors, geofencing, over-the-air update capabilities and visibility of assets and loads whether or not a trailer is connected to a tractor. With additional sensors, the T2 unit works well in intermodal environments, allowing for tracking when under foreign power, truck or rail.
