Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, congratulates Midwest Wireless, a Minnesota-based wireless service provider, on the successful commercial launch of BREW-based services across its CDMA2000 1X network. Midwest Wireless has deployed CDMA2000 1X technology in more than 90% of its operational area, with the remainder of its network expected to be CDMA2000 1X-enabled by the end of 2003.
Midwest Wireless subscribers in these areas will now have access to a growing catalog of valuable and entertaining applications, including games, ring tones, and useful information and communications services.

The LG VX4400 and Kyocera 3225 are the two initial BREW-enabled handsets being offered to Midwest Wireless subscribers. The first available BREW-based applications include games like Fury of the Hulk, Tom Clancy Rainbow Six and Tetris, as well as information and productivity applications such as MyCast Weather, iPhonebook and PeepsNation.
Midwest Wireless joins Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL and U.S. Cellular in the United States, KTF in South Korea, KDDI in Japan, China Unicom, VIVO (the joint venture between Telefónica Móviles and Portugal Telecom) in Brazil and Telstra in Australia, in commercializing BREW-based services. More than 70 BREW-enabled handset models have been offered to consumers worldwide by 15 different manufacturers.
