Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and Reliance Infocomm Limited, a company promoted by Reliance Industries Limited, India's largest private-sector enterprise, today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to launch a wireless data service based on Qualcomm's BREW solution. The agreement will enable subscribers of Reliance Infocomm's CDMA2000 1X service to be the first wireless users in India to download BREW-based applications over the air - allowing them to personalize their mobile phones virtually anytime, anywhere.
Reliance is joining the rising number of operators worldwide offering services based on Qualcomm's BREW solution. The BREW solution provides Reliance with a complete wireless data system that supports all programming languages and operating systems, and enables the operator to provide enhanced, value-added services to its subscribers. By selecting the BREW solution, Reliance also gains a worldwide developer community, lead by a strong local base of wireless developers in India sure to take full advantage of the flexibility the BREW platform offers.

Details of the agreement between Qualcomm and Reliance Infocomm were not disclosed.

The BREW solution provides the necessary tools and value-added services to developers, device manufacturers and wireless operators for application development and distribution, device configuration, and billing and payment. Among the many benefits of the BREW platform for developers are its unique extension management capabilities allowing developers to dynamically add new capabilities to the BREW platform, without requiring a lengthy standards process.
