Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and BellSouth International, a leading provider of wireless services in Latin America, today announced the signing of an agreement to launch downloadable wireless application services in nine BellSouth operating companies in Latin America.
The services, based on Qualcomm's BREW-solution, will enable more than 8.6 million subscribers of BellSouth's affiliates in Latin America to download useful and entertaining data applications wirelessly to their handsets. They will be able to choose from numerous categories of compelling wireless data applications such as games, business and navigation services, weather, news, chat and e-commerce.
BellSouth International's operations in Colombia and Ecuador will be the first to launch BREW-based products and services. The other BellSouth International operations that are currently planning to roll out service based on the BREW solution are Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Uruguay and Venezuela.
