Brazil's Telesp Celular to Trial Qualcomm's BREW™-Enabled Wireless Data Applications

SAN DIEGO -- June 3, 2002 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced it will work with Telesp Celular, the largest mobile phone operator in Brazil, to conduct a user trial of wireless data applications for handsets enabled by Qualcomm's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless™ (BREW) platform. The BREW platform gives users the ability to download applications and personalize their mobile devices, over-the-air, virtually anytime, anywhere.

Trial participants include Telesp Celular users who currently rely heavily upon cellular service - including commercial and private subscribers - as well as current customers who have expressed interest in wireless data services. Access to the downloadable applications supported by Qualcomm's BREW platform will allow Telesp Celular subscribers to quickly and easily customize their wireless handsets with a variety of applications. Telesp Celular's BREW services will take advantage of its next-generation high-speed data network, which supports voice and data transfers at speeds up to 144 kbps. The company intends to test the network with video streaming applications created by GenerationPIX, Inc.

Other downloadable applications available to Telesp Celular's trial users will include games such as NuvoStudios' BlackJack and BrainCheck, JAMDAT Mobile's EA SPORTS™ Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® Golf and JAMDAT Bowling, wireless communication enabled by Comverse's Mobile E-mail and Instant Communications and MessageVine's Instant Messaging, and practical applications such as Rocket Mobile's MobileConverter™ currency converter and MobileExpense™ expense tracking program.

The BREW platform is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK™ (software development kit) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting tools for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that is controlled and managed by carriers - enabling them to easily get applications from developers to market and coordinate the billing and payment process.
