SAN DIEGO -- February 5, 2002 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications and onboard computing for the transportation industry, today announced the commercial launch of FleetAdvisor®, which has been successfully converted to the Windows® CE platform. FleetAdvisor is a powerful transportation logistics management system comprised of full-function on-board computing, vehicle tracking, highly integrated back-office software and real-time wireless communications. With the FleetAdvisor system, Qualcomm offers the applications most often demanded by private fleets including paperless driver logs, accurate state mileage reporting and improved route management.
"Furthering our commitment to provide the highest level of fleet management solutions available to the transportation industry, we've seamlessly integrated the FleetAdvisor system into Qualcomm's OmniTRACS and OmniExpress mobile communications systems," said Chris Wolfe, president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. "This total solution provides an affordable, reliable system that directly addresses the needs of private fleets with onboard computing and improved customer service enhanced with real-time, integrated wireless communications. This system is vastly superior to outdated methods such as cellular phones, pagers, two-way radios and stand-alone, batch-only on-board computers/trip recorders."
"Qualcomm has been a trusted name in the transportation industry for nearly 14 years and continues to deliver cutting-edge solutions with customer needs in mind," said Norm Ellis, vice president of business operations, Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. "In these challenging economic times, improved fleet management is crucial to successful business operations. Qualcomm's FleetAdvisor now provides private fleets with a complete solution that enhances supply chain management and enables superior customer service while helping reduce operational costs and support regulatory compliance."
The FleetAdvisor system consists of Qualcomm's MVPc in-vehicle computer, OmniTRACS® or OmniExpress® mobile communications system, on-board software, and host-based software. The FleetAdvisor system runs on the MVPc in-vehicle computer using the Windows CE operating system. When combined with OmniTRACS or OmniExpress, it enables private fleets to automate, integrate and improve business processes by relaying information real time through Qualcomm, the world's leading provider of high-value wireless data solutions.
Qualcomm has helped the transportation industry become more efficient since 1988 when the introduction of the OmniTRACS mobile communications system provided transportation companies with an innovative and effective way of managing logistics. Its fleet management solutions continue to set the standard by offering products and services that meet the demands of a constantly changing marketplace. With OmniExpress, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based digital wireless communications and tracking system, Qualcomm continues to expand into new vertical markets. With a Network Management Center that processes more than seven million transactions each day and over 400,000 Qualcomm mobile systems shipped to businesses in more than 32 countries on four continents, Qualcomm continues to lead the industry in providing wireless data solutions.
