SAN DIEGO -- August 1, 2000 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, today announced the promotion of George Dunn to vice president and general manager of United States and Canadian operations for Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions (QWBS). Mr. Dunn will expand his leadership role to include responsibility for all vertical markets using QWBS products and services, including truckload, less-than-truckload, and private and metro fleets.
"George and his team have been very successful in establishing new and maintaining existing relationships with the truckload industry," said Chris Wolfe, senior vice president and general manager of QWBS. "By leveraging George's strong track record of success and leadership skills, we can aggressively move into new markets to provide wireless data solutions for the transportation industry."
Mr. Dunn joined Qualcomm in 1989 as one of QWBS' first national sales representatives. He has played a significant role in establishing strategic relationships with a variety of key customers and has been responsible for agreements with transportation companies in the midwest, northeast and southeast regions. Over the last 10 years, he has continued to assume increased responsibility, leadership and regional management roles. Most recently, as vice president of truckload business operations, Mr. Dunn was responsible for successfully growing QWBS' share of the U.S. truckload market.
Before joining Qualcomm, Mr. Dunn held sales representative and contract management positions with ABF Freight Systems and Customized Transportation Inc., respectively. Mr. Dunn holds a bachelor's degree in materials logistics management from Michigan State University.
Assuming Mr. Dunn's responsibilities is Glynn Spangenberg, who has been promoted from senior director of national and major accounts to vice president of U.S. and Canadian truckload business operations. "Glynn has done a tremendous job in establishing our strategic national and major account program, and his efforts have led to long-term contract renewals across the board," said Mr. Dunn. In his new role, Mr. Spangenberg will be responsible for the entire truckload vertical market including P&L, strategy development, sales efforts and customer service support for QWBS business in the United States and Canada.
