Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), a leader in wireless communications and advanced electronic messaging solutions for the Internet, today announced an exclusive agreement with French software company AB SOFT to manufacture, duplicate, market, promote, sell and distribute the French version of the world's most popular and easy-to-use email solution, Eudora Pro Email 4.0. This agreement includes all corporate, consumer and retail distribution channels in France.
"This agreement is a win for the French consumer," said James DeBello, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm's Eudora Division. "Having AB SOFT as an in-country republisher guarantees that customers receive a quick delivery time of the product to distribution channels and a more immediate response to their questions. Because the product will no longer be exported to France from the United States and no importation fees will be incurred, French consumers will now be able to enjoy the power of Eudora Pro Email 4.0 at a lower cost."
Eudora Pro Email 4.0 will be available through AB SOFT's existing, vast distribution network consisting of 2500 dealers, distributors, mail order catalogs, corporate dealers and retail stores. AB SOFT will offer high quality technical support and dealer training for the product.
"The match between the two companies is ideal," said Bertrand Michels, chairman and founder of AB SOFT. "Qualcomm and AB SOFT have the same vision of the future where computing and communication converge into one single market and technology."
AB SOFT is the first independent republisher in France specializing in communication and utility software. The company began trading publicly on the French stock market at the close of 1997. The agreement also states that AB SOFT has the first option to distribute Qualcomm's server products, Eudora WorldMail™ Server 2.0 and Eudora Internet Mail Server™ 2.0 (EIMS), throughout France.
With over 18 million users, the Eudora® family of software products is the world's most popular Internet email solution, providing comprehensive client/server solutions for both Internet and intranet messaging.
