Citing tremendous growth and success in the development of the Company as a worldwide leader in wireless communications, Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) today announced the promotions of Steve Altman to executive vice president and general counsel and Anthony Thornley to executive vice president and chief financial officer of Qualcomm.

Thornley's extensive background in finance and business development includes over twenty seven years of financial and information systems management experience. Thornley joined Qualcomm in March 1994 as vice president and CFO. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Thornley served as vice president, public networks with Northern Telecom. He has also worked for Coopers and Lybrand and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Thornley received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, England.
Altman joined Qualcomm in 1989 as corporate counsel. In addition to being the Company's General Counsel, Altman is also general manager of the Company's Technology Transfer and Strategic Alliance Division. With Altman's strategic business acumen, Qualcomm has entered into more than 60 worldwide licensing agreements or joint venture relationships with many of the world's largest telecommunications companies. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Altman was a business lawyer in the San Diego law firm of Gray, Cary, Ware & Freidenrich, where he specialized in intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, securities and general corporate matters. Altman received a B.S. degree from Northern Arizona University and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego.
