Meeting the demand for an automated solution that would help simplify the fuel tax reporting process, Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) has introduced the newest member of the OnTRACS™ family, State Mileage reporting software. State Mileage is an automated satellite-based system that determines miles driven by state, by truck and by fleet. The OnTRACS State Mileage system combines the proven accuracy of OmniTRACS® satellite positioning and the quality of ALK's PC*Miler® routing database to determine accurate miles.
"We know that filing fuel tax reports is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process that is very costly to fleet owners," explained Dennis Harlow, senior product manager for the OnTRACS product line. "We wanted to simplify the process by automating the collection and allocationof miles driven by state—OnTRACS State Mileage does just that."
The system features built-in cross-referencing that compares the vehicle odometer reading with the mileage from the ALK system. If significant differences are detected between the number of miles determined by the routing system and the actual number of odometer miles, that segment of the route is either adjusted using predefined rules or is automatically flagged for further review.
And because OnTRACS State Mileage is exception-based, it provides highly accurate information with minimal user effort. An optional feature allows the odometer reading to be transmitted automatically as part of other data messages through Qualcomm's Electronic Odometer Application, or through its SensorTRACS® driver performance monitoring module.
With OnTRACS, mileage for each state traveled is provided in a summary report that is in a convenient IFTA-compliant format. Requiring no additional vehicle hardware, all OnTRACS route analysis systems, including State Mileage and ETA/OoR, are currently available for OmniTRACS AS/400 customers.
