SAN DIEGO - July 16, 1996 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), theworld's leading developer of advanced Internet electronic messagingsolutions, today announced the worldwide availability of Eudora Pro 3.0software for the Macintosh platform. Eudora Pro 3.0 software incorporatesnumerous new features, including enhanced message filtering, a new plug-inarchitecture and stylized text capabilities, making it one of the mostpowerful email management and productivity tools available. The Eudorafamily of products is currently the world's most popular Internet emailsoftware with more than 10 million users around the globe.
As part of Qualcomm's initiative to deliver the most powerful andproductive messaging environment, Eudora Pro 3.0 software features a newplug-in architecture called Extended Messaging Services (EMS). With EMS,users will have access to plug-in applications that significantly enhancethe functionality of Eudora software, including human language translation,compression, image format conversion, content analysis, and data securityservices.

Eudora Pro 3.0 software helps users manage their electronic communicationsthrough sophisticated sorting and labeling, hierarchical mailboxes, and itspowerful message filtering capability. Message filtering is the featureemail users say is most important, according to a recent survey of over2,000 computer magazine readers. Moreover, the new configurable toolbarmakes it even easier to access key commands and customize the toolbar tosuit each individual user. Users can also set buttons to correspond tofunction keys and create new buttons for most Eudora commands.
The software also supports Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME)standard stylized text so users can incorporate various fonts, font sizes,colors, and layout options to give messages the look of word-processeddocuments. In addition, Eudora Pro 3.0 software marks active Internethot-links (URLs) for the World Wide Web, FTP and email. Double-clicking aweb URL inside a message automatically opens a user's favorite Web browserto the page specified in the hot-link.
A recent study completed by International Data Corporation concluded thatQualcomm is the dominant leader in the worldwide Internet email softwaremarket, with 63.5 percent of installed mailboxes and 70.9 percent share ofall new Internet mailboxes. Moreover, a recent survey of Internet usersconducted by Matrix Information Directory Services (MIDS) of Austin, Texas,a leading authority on the Internet and its growth, concluded that over 60percent of educational institutions and over 50 percent of organizations onthe Internet use Eudora software products for communication.
Eudora Pro 3.0 software for Macintosh computers is now available throughover two dozen distributors, including Ingram Micro, where Eudora Prosoftware has been on the best seller list for more than nine months. Eudora Pro 3.0 software for Macintosh computers carries a suggested listprice of $89 and is available now. Current Eudora Pro 2.x software userscan purchase the 3.0 upgrade at suggested list price of $39. The upgradecan also be purchased electronically from the Eudora Web site for $29 (U.S.and Canada only). Customers who purchased Eudora Pro 2.x software forMacintosh after April 17, 1996 are eligible to receive the electronicupgrade free with proof of purchase.
