Lockheed Martin IMS/Qualcomm Form Marketing Alliance Customers Will Use PrePass-Automated Truck Weigh Station Bypass Service

Lockheed Martin IMS and Qualcomm today announced the signing of a joint marketing agreement that will allow Qualcomm OmniTRACS customers to bypass weigh stations and ports-of-entry using PrePass, the automated truck weigh station bypass service.

The agreement allows Qualcomm to market and distribute PrePass throughout the United States. PrePass is expected to provide Qualcomm customers with a valuable service that allows them to enter the emerging national intelligent transportation system.

"PrePass provides our customers with an added benefit that will speed the movement of their vehicles," said Dean Ford, vice president New Markets, OmniTRACS division.

Einar Gustavson, vice president of Commercial Vehicle Operations in Lockheed Martin IMS' transportation division, said, "Lockheed Martin IMS is pleased to have reached this strategic agreement with the company that pioneered satellite communications in trucking. Qualcomm provides a nationwide sales organization and a sophisticated customer base that is knowledgeable and eager to obtain innovative technologies that put them ahead of their competition."

Qualcomm is an innovative communications company that pioneered two-way satellite communications for the transportation industry. Headquartered in San Diego, Calif., Qualcomm develops, manufactures, markets, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on its proprietary digital wireless technologies. There are currently more than 155,000 OmniTRACS units sold worldwide, processing over two million transactions a day for more than 500 customers.

PrePass allows commercial vehicles to be electronically weighed and to have their credentials and safety rating checked automatically as they bypass designated open weigh stations and ports-of-entry. The service is currently operational at weigh stations in California and New Mexico and will soon be up and running at sites in Arizona.

PrePass is offered by HELP Inc., a non-profit partnership of 11 member states, based in Phoenix. The partnership is dedicated to the development of advanced technology that improves the safe and efficient movement of commercial vehicles. Lockheed Martin IMS is the systems integrator for PrePass.
