Snapdragon 8cx 5G platform enables extreme productivity while working remotely [video]

It’s no secret that 5G is beginning to transform people’s mobile experiences. Where previous generations of cellular focused on smartphones, 5G will have a disruptive impact in industries including gaming, XR, entertainment, automotive, manufacturing, and enterprises among others. It’s also connecting next-generation PCs which will redefine mobile computing bringing increased productivity when working remotely. Especially when using the blazing fast speeds and high capacity of 5G operating in the so-called millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum.

Using the Qualcomm Snapdragon compute platform, Lenovo is bringing the first of what will be many 5G-connected Always On, Always Connected PCs to stores soon. How the Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform is enabling highly productive mobile PC experiences

In our technology demo, we had the Yoga 5G PC edit a 90 second video of RAW, uncompressed, 6K, 24 FPS Red video footage using Adobe Premiere Pro on a Windows Virtual Desktop. The task requires enormous computational power, especially when the source content is over 200 gigabytes. Editing video is also usually done at an editing bay with a workstation computer and multiple high-capacity, high-speed storage devices connected to it — not on a thin-and-light laptop. Of course, this is no ordinary PC as it has the power of 5G mmWave connectivity enabling lightning fast connections to keep you productive while working remotely.

The professional video editor, Steven, applied a LUT, or “lookup table”, to the video clip, which allowed him to adjust the video’s color (hue, saturation, and brightness). He also altered the segment of the source clip used in the final video and previewed these changes in real time — all on the Lenovo Yoga 5G PC. With the multi-Gbps peak rates, low latency, and massive capacity that 5G mmWave offers, Steven could also quickly upload additional content if needed. With a finalized project, he could then quickly download the completed projects and even stream 4K+ content in real time.

Thanks to its Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform, the Lenovo Yoga 5G PC is designed for extreme battery life and advanced, virtually anytime, anywhere connectivity. So even if Steven was en route to a location for a video shoot and received an urgent request to edit a video for a client, he’d be able to handle that task easily and effectively. With a 5G PC powered by Snapdragon, he could use a high-speed 5G connection to make the changes, export the file, send it to the client, and video conference her to let her know it’s on the way — all without interrupting his work schedule or having to wait to get back to his high-powered workstation.

Whether it’s editing video, working with complex CAD projects, or holding a large-scale video conference over 4K video, we’re excited about what the future holds for PCs powered by Snapdragon, like the Lenovo Yoga 5G PC.
