The Qualcomm Smart Headset Development Kit for the Google Assistant is designed to deliver push-button headset activation support for the Google service

As demand for wireless earbuds and headsets grows, so does the need for a platform that elevates the experiences of their users. Our audio solution is designed to do just that: The Qualcomm Smart Headset Reference Design for the Google Assistant is engineered to offer developers the opportunity to experience the functionality supporting simple push-to-talk for the Google service via the Google app running on the phone, which connects to the Google cloud service.

Manufacturers can then upscale to the Qualcomm Smart Headset Development Kit for the Google Assistant, a comprehensive, customizable development kit designed to include the building blocks needed to create a smart headset which supports Google Assistant, making it simpler for audio manufacturers to start developing straight out of the box.

Consumers crave high-quality audio

We’re always interested in understanding what consumers are looking for in their wireless audio devices. This helps our customers to create products that are both innovative and competitive. For the last few years, Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. has worked with researchers to assess the listening habits and purchasing drivers of smartphone users. The 2018 State of Play Report, which was conducted with OnePoll Ltd, found that 76 percent of those surveyed said sound quality is the most important factor when purchasing an audio device. Additionally, 79 percent said they seek high-resolution audio.

Our goal is to create solutions for our customers with this in mind. The Qualcomm Smart Headset Reference Design for the Google Assistant provides the following:

  • Occluded earbuds with ear interface rubbers available from a third party
  • Qualcomm QCC5124 BGA90, 1 in right side
  • Flexy rigid PCB design in both sides
  • 2 mic Qualcomm cVc noise reduction technology on right side
  • 60mA battery per side
  • Micro USB charging — right side
  • Software binary image — ADK based Stereo Headset application supporting Google Assistant
  • Detailed hardware design pack available

The Qualcomm Smart Headset Platform

Manufacturers can evaluate the Qualcomm Smart Headset Reference Design for the Google Assistant. Based on the Qualcomm QCC302X, QCC303X, and QCC5100 low-power Bluetooth audio series, it offers push-button activation support for devices that have Google’s voice UI installed. It supports Google Fast Pair, which helps optimize the out-of-box pairing experience for end users.

The Qualcomm Smart Headset Reference Design is designed to deliver superior audio quality, noise cancellation capabilities, and supports extended battery life and playback time. The reference design is just an example of what manufacturers can engineer; other possible form factors are smart earbuds, headphones, and speakers. 

Bespoke development of the Qualcomm Smart Headset Reference Design is possible with the Qualcomm Bluetooth Developer License and ADK. For more detailed hardware development, the Qualcomm Open Board Development Kit can be purchased along with a Transaction Bridge for debugging.
