This week, the tech community gathers in Las Vegas for one of the biggest industry events of the year — CES. Companies from across the globe will showcase their latest innovations, enabling the world to see, hear, and experience our future.

For over 30 years, we’ve been inventing breakthrough technologies that have made much of this tech possible. From 3G, to 4G, and now 5G, we’ve transformed how the world connects, computes, and communicates, truly accelerating the mobile ecosystem and the pace of progress in other industries, such as automotive, entertainment, manufacturing, and computing.

CES always makes us feel like we’re on the brink of the next great generation of life-changing technology. This year, that feeling is truer than ever. It’s because 2019 is the year we unlock real 5G, and with it multi-gigabit speeds, ultra-low latency, on-device AI, and extreme reliability, scalability, and capacity. This will help cars connect to virtually everything around them, help factories make not just things but decisions as well, and can create technologies we can’t even conceive of yet.

Making 5G real

There was a time when 5G felt like a bit of a distant reality, but it’s here and we couldn’t be more thrilled. We’ve worked tirelessly to unveil this new generation of faster, more reliable connectivity to the masses, and last month, we finally did.

At our annual Snapdragon Tech Summit in Maui, we debuted the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, which, combined with the Snapdragon X50 Modem, is the world’s first commercial mobile platform to support multi-gigabit 5G. Thanks to our global ecosystem, it will debut in premium devices this year as 5G smartphones and infrastructure begin to roll out around the world. Now mobile gaming, camera, XR, connectivity, and virtually everything in between promises to be smarter, faster, and more intuitive with 5G.

But the promise of 5G goes far beyond smartphones. Unlike 4G, which was about unleashing the true potential of mobile applications, 5G is about connecting everything to everything else. This is the age of a true Internet of Things with billions of connected devices. This is the age when AI can live in your hand instead of just in the cloud. And it’s the age when the impossible becomes possible, opening up brand new opportunities for invention.

Fueling industries

Through our 5G leadership, we’re enabling an explosion of innovation like nothing that’s come before. This new generation of connectivity is designed to enable people, communities, and entire industries to leap forward in new and exciting ways.

In the auto world, our suite of smart technology and automotive solutions, such as Qualcomm C-V2X, are paving the way for cars to connect to each other, the road, and virtually everything else around them. We believe driving can be safer and more efficient, and in-vehicle experiences can look and feel completely different than they do today as a result of this innovation. Watch for more news on this throughout the show week.

5G is also designed to pair with other emerging technologies. It will thrive with enhanced AI capabilities, and it is what’s needed to finally deliver photorealistic boundless XR, so you can enjoy virtual experiences that actually feel real, not digital. 5G is your ticket to virtually attending live events, trying AR shopping on for size, and latency-free gaming designed to ensure you never miss a move.

Factories can be connected wirelessly too. Manufacturing can re-tool in real-time, and suddenly operations that seemed like a thing of the far future can become our present.

Mobile experiences on your PC should feel like they do on your smartphone — connected, fast, familiar, and with multi-day battery life*. With your Always Connected PC**, you will rarely have to plug in and will be as connected as your smartphone.

This is the age of real 5G, made possible by Qualcomm. But it’s also much more than that — it’s the Invention Age.

With 5G and the technologies it is expected to foster, there comes a once-in-a-decade opportunity to innovate in brand new ways. As always, we’ll continue to invent the technology the world loves so that our customers can keep pushing these possibilities further.

So welcome to the Invention Age.

We can’t wait to see what you’ll do with it.
