The Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform is the latest addition to the family, and is engineered to deliver cutting-edge technologies to mainstream smartphone buyers who want to make the most of what their Snapdragon-powered device has to offer.
The Snapdragon 670 features highly integrated architectures, including the Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Qualcomm AI Engine, and Snapdragon X12 LTE modem, for high-quality mobile user experiences. This new mobile platform gives OEMs freedom to add more features and experiment with different mobile device sizes than with our previous generations. For consumers, this means more options to choose from, depending on what suits their needs.
Together, these features and improvements support leading artificial intelligence (AI), camera, and multimedia applications. Here’s a closer look at the advanced features of the new Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform.
AI Engine: Support for leading AI tech
As AI grows more popular with mobile users, we’ve focused on developing processors that offer essential support for next-generation AI features like smart camera settings. The Snapdragon 670 uses the same digital signal processing (DSP) found in higher-tier mobile platforms: the Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP. The always-on, always-sensing processor boasts efficient sensor management abilities, ideal for computing algorithms that make AI-powered apps.
We also integrated our 3rd generation AI Engine, designed to deliver up to 1.8x AI performance than available in the previous generation. Because its AI capabilities are on-device, users can expect near real-time responsiveness, improved privacy, and enhanced reliability, even when the device lacks a network connection.
Our AI Engine offers an extensive array of frameworks giving developers a variety of choices to create better apps and immersive multimedia. This includes a wide range of tools, including the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK and Hexagon Neural Network (NN). Additionally, it supports Caffe, Caffe2, TensorFlow, TensorFlowLite, and ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange).
Nestled in the Snapdragon 670 is the Kryo 360 CPU. Because it utilizes two performance cores (of up to 2.0GHz) and six efficiency cores (of up to 1.7GHz), this latest iteration of the Kryo CPU is designed to deliver up to 15 percent higher performance than its predecessor. For users, this means their Snapdragon 670-powered devices can juggle multiple power-intensive experiences without acutely affecting battery life.
New architecture for advanced camera capabilities
The Snapdragon 670 is the first 600-tier platform to feature the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP, the second generation of our signature ISP. The ISP enables most of the premium camera features found in professional cameras — including noise reduction, image stabilization, and active depth sensing.
Users can also record video with Ultra HD Video Capture, a feature that uses up to 30 percent less power than its predecessor. Overall, the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP supports up to 25MP for single cameras and 16MP for dual cameras, so users can capture moments in super high resolution.
The Snapdragon 670 is equipped with the X12 LTE Modem, which is designed to support fast speeds in congested areas and lock onto strong signals where coverage is weak. Specifically, the modem supports download speeds of up to 600Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps, so users can stream movies and download music without a hitch.
Another benefit of the X12 modem is that it’s engineered to automatically switch between LTE and Wi-Fi, depending on which mode has the strongest signal quality and highest speeds at the time. This technology enables better voice and video calls, so dropped calls can soon be a thing of the past. Plus, if an OEM opts to support the feature, the modem can even bond the LTE and Wi-Fi connections to boost download speeds.
