More premium features on more devices: How Snapdragon 710 can elevate the mobile experience [video]

Premium, in-demand features are coming to a new tier of smartphone thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform. Packed with next generation technologies to bring gorgeous photos, crazy download speeds, stunning graphics and advanced audio, Snapdragon 710 is designed for those looking to elevate their mobile experience. With 2X the overall improvement in AI performance compared to the previous generation, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform, 710-enabled devices are engineered to run faster and smarter, working for you in brand new ways.

Built on the Qualcomm Kryo 360 CPU, Qualcomm Spectra 250 camera ISP, and Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP, the Snapdragon 710 mobile platform offers an elevated mobile experience that’s as technologically advanced as it is affordable. And despite all of the power that’s packed in, the Snapdragon 710 is even more efficient than the Snapdragon 660; its 10nm process — available for the first time outside of the Snapdragon 800 series — engineered to deliver a 20 percent performance uplift that translate into more time for streaming video, 4K video capture, gaming, playing music, and, well, talking.

Here’s a closer look at the Snapdragon 710 and how it can elevate your mobile experiences:

Smarter, faster AI

The Snapdragon 710 mobile platform integrates our third-generation AI platform, with a sophisticated, multicore AI Engine for running cutting-edge camera, voice recognition, and gaming applications. Optimizations to the three AI compute cores — the DSP, GPU, and CPU — contribute to overall improvements in performance for AI applications, compared to the Snapdragon 660. And because the AI Engine’s processing is happening on device, you’ll notice your smartphone reacts faster and uses less power.

Upping your smartphone’s speed opens the door to a wide number of use cases as it accelerates many of the device’s applications. If you’re accessing your phone with face unlock, it’ll authenticate twice as fast as our previous generation. If you’re snapping a photo, the AI Engine knows your camera setting preferences and automatically adjusts to them, allowing you to take the picture twice as fast. For example, the AI Engine would detect if you’re shooting in low-light and raise the foreground lighting to help you take the best shot possible.

The Snapdragon 710 is also engineered to optimize your battery life. Heterogeneous computing helps balance your application’s workloads, maintain low thermals, and optimize for power and performance so your applications run fast continually.

Connect and download faster than ever before

Frustrated by slow download speeds? Chances are, you’re farther away from a cell tower or in a congested area. The Snapdragon 710 integrates the new Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, designed to tap into several enhanced 4G LTE features to help alleviate these issues, including support for 4x4 MIMO and License-Assisted Access (LAA).

The Cat 15 modem is engineered to reach peak download speeds of up to 800 Mbps. By using four antennas (two more than our previous generation), phones can get a cleaner, stronger signal from the tower, helping boost speeds. The Snapdragon X15 LTE Modem is designed to support download speeds up to 70 percent faster than LTE phones without 4x4 MIMO, even when you’re far from a cell tower and receiving a weak signal.

Complementing its LTE features are an advanced suite of wireless technologies. Snapdragon 710 boasts integrated 2x2 Wi-Fi (802.11ac) with MU-MIMO to support up to 2X throughput, compared with 1x1 Wi-Fi, for stronger signals in once-problematic areas like homes with brick or concrete walls.

Better photos, videos, and multimedia playback

Some of the most exciting features in the Snapdragon 710 are centered around the camera and multimedia experiences. The second-generation Qualcomm Spectra ISP, which debuted beyond the 800 tier with the Snapdragon 660, pushes the boundaries even further with new, premium camera and multimedia features.

4K HDR Video Playback lets you watch HDR video and HDR apps. This content boasts 10 bits of color depth compared to 8 bits with the Snapdragon 660. This results in up to a 64X increase in the shades of colors you can see on the screen, allowing for richer, deeper graphics while watching video and even playing games (they’ll render 35 percent faster too). Snapdragon 710 can also display video in the Rec. 2020 color gamut so you can see even more color.

Additionally, the same Ultra HD Video Capture is back better than ever this time using 40 percent less power than the previous generation to offer up to four hours of 4K video capture. Video Noise Reduction with motion compensated temporal filtering, which allows you to capture video in brilliant detail.

In addition to video, the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP enables enhanced still photography. With multi-frame noise reduction, you can take multiple photos simultaneously, which will be stitched together to create a higher quality shot. And now with active depth sensing for features like face unlock, the Snapdragon 710 can deliver even higher security and more accuracy.

Power and performance to keep you going

Across the board, the 710’s features boast improved power capabilities compared to the previous generation, engineered to save you battery life in the short and long term. The 10nm processor packs in smaller and more efficient transistors, so your Snapdragon 710 device can run with lower power and be able to preserve battery a crucial advancement considering battery life is the number one smartphone purchase criteria worldwide, according to our internal research.

The X15 LTE Modem is made to deliver power-saving benefits as well, since the faster you download content, the less you’ll need your modem. And like the efficient GPU and ISP architectures, the Kryo 360 CPU contributes to major power-saving benefits. The aforementioned 20 percent performance lift over the 660 translates into 1+ day of talk time, 5+ days of music playback, up to 13 hours of 4K video playback, 11+ hours of streaming, up to 4 hours of 4K video capture, or 9+ hours of gaming.

And when your device is running low on battery, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology will bring you from 0 to 50 percent battery in just 15 minutes. Additionally, Quick Charge 4+ works to help ensure only the power needed is delivered to the device. In the long-term, these battery-saving technologies are designed to increase the lifespan of your battery.

Between its advanced architectures, power efficiency, and premium features, the Snapdragon 710 packs in everything users need for an elevated, affordable mobile experience.
