Snapdragon 821 gives OnePlus 3T a power push

This past June, Android enthusiasts heralded the OnePlus 3 powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Today, the company announced the next iteration of its popular flagship smartphone: OnePlus 3T.

Building on the success of its predecessor and adding on key hardware and software updates, the OnePlus 3T will come with the powerful 2.35 GHz Snapdragon 821 processor, engineered to bring unparalleled connectivity, computing, multimedia, and power efficiency to the device.

As we consume more media and expend more data than ever before, superlative connectivity is becoming increasingly important. We covet lightning-fast speeds wherever we are—whether at home, work, or in transit. To make this possible, the OnePlus 3T uses the integrated Snapdragon X12 LTE modem with advanced 802.11ac MU-MIMO Wi-Fi support. These cutting-edge connectivity technologies work together to blanket our worlds in high-speed, reliable internet. 

The X12 LTE modem is designed to offer superior network coverage and 33 percent faster 4G+ LTE speeds than the previous generation modem, making sure that voice calls, video, and data get to the OnePlus 3T faster. And when they’re connected to Wi-Fi, OnePlus 3T users enjoy 802.11ac MU-MIMO support, which offers a 3X speed increase compared to traditional Wi-Fi.

The 6GB OnePlus 3T brims with the latest computing solutions from Qualcomm Technologies. Foremost is the Qualcomm Kryo CPU, a custom-designed CPU, engineered to reimagine task management, spreading it across the entire processor to enhance battery life and performance. On the OnePlus 3T, this means faster app launches, shorter boot times, and up-to a 10 percent performance increase compared to the previous model.

For 3D gaming, the OnePlus 3T can take advantage of the Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU, designed to give gamers a better graphic experience and help them play longer. The console-quality, VR-enabled GPU offers up to 40 percent better graphics performance and power efficiency compared to previous generations of Snapdragon processors. 

Mobile multimedia also needs sensor and battery intelligence to flourish. In the OnePlus 3T, Snapdragon 821 includes an invaluable signal processing technology called the Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP, which is designed to offload tasks and organize low-power image processing across the chip. Hexagon DSP is also engineered to bolster the Qualcomm Aqstic powered speakers and camera by supporting dedicated processing and smart sensor management.

Custom software in the OnePlus 3T is also key to the OnePlus mission to elevate the user experience without making any power or battery sacrifices. With Smart Capture, an exclusive photography software suite, and OxygenOS, OnePlus’ custom operating system, the OnePlus 3T is made to offer a refined Android experience that’s faster, cleaner, and more customizable than ever before.

The OnePlus 3T front and back cameras are made to capture images in stunning 16 MP, using advanced processes to combine pixels, resulting in clearer, more colorful photos in virtually any condition.

The 64GB and 128GB Gunmetal versions of the OnePlus 3T will be available on OnePlus.net in the U.S. starting November 22 and in Europe on November 28. A Soft Gold edition will be available after launch.
