How many times has your smartphone saved your life? Probably too many to count. From reminding us about appointments to connecting with loved ones halfway across the world, mobile devices are an essential part of our daily lives.

And yet, despite our profound attachment, we rarely think about the technology that makes our smartphones so great. That’s the thing about technology that you can’t see or touch—you have to think outside the box to tell its story.

To help showcase the behind-the-scenes hero of your mobile experience, we collaborated with Ogilvy and Oscar-winner Armando Bo (screenplay for Birdman) to create the ultimate product demo, a concept as innovative as our technology. Lifeline is a 30-minute live-action thriller shot in Shanghai starring Leehom Wang, Olivia Munn, and Joan Chen. While it’s 70 percent in Mandarin, we believe the appeal is global thanks to hero of the film, Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.

Part of the fun was crafting an inventive story that mirrors how Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile innovations can help save the day when lives are literally on the line. The film follows a man who wakes up to find his girlfriend missing. The cellphone she left behind is his only clue to her whereabouts. So how will technologies like enhanced security, advanced photo and video capture, superior connectivity, and fast charging help him find her? Watch the film to find out. Be sure to stick around after the film to watch Inside Lifeline, to go behind the scenes of the production and learn more about the tech that inspired it.
