Samsung has announced the latest addition to its wearable family, the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch, featuring a circular design and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with integrated modem powering the 3G variant. The Gear S2 has evolved from its predecessor, the popular Gear S connected smartwatch, also powered by the Snapdragon 400, with a stand-out design detail—a rotating bezel with some cool navigation features.

The Gear S2 sports a round, 360 x 360-pixel display, a popular form factor with many smartwatch wearers. And the Gear S2’s rotating bezel makes the smartwatch truly unique, making zooming, panning, and navigating the watch’s interface a simple twist of the bezel. Turning the bezel also gives users complete control when they’re scrolling through photos, apps, and menus. The physical button powers the device on and off, and also launches S Voice controls and emergency messages.

Like most of Samsung’s other smartwatches, the Gear S2, will run on the Tizen OS. Built-in sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, heartrate monitor, ambient light sensor, and barometer, making the smartwatch an intelligent activity tracker too. Even more exciting, the 3G-connected S2 will be the first smartwatch to have e-SIM (embedded SIM card) with voice capability. The Gear S2 with 3G connectivity is the perfect choice if you want to make a call, search the web, or check your e-mail, all without being tethered to a phone. The Snapdragon 400, with Qualcomm Technologies’ leading modem technology built in, is the ideal processor for these tasks.

The Samsung Gear S2 3G will feature a Super AMOLED display with a 302 ppi count, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 300-mAh battery that can be wirelessly charged and will keep the watch running for up to two to three days. The Gear S2 offers two color options: a dark gray case with a dark gray band, and a silver case with a white band.
