Within a year of introducing the original Moto 360, Motorola has released its second-generation smartwatch collection. The device features the familiar round design, but now offers customizable bands, colors, and sizes that you can create from Moto Maker design studio, along with the new Moto 360 Sport model. Each powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, the newest Moto 360 series fits into anyone’s lifestyle.
The new Moto 360 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes for men, with silver, gold, or black straps; a 42mm face for women with silver, gold, or rose-gold straps, or a double-wrap leather strap; and a 42mm Moto 360 Sport with a fixed plastic band in white, grey, and orange. This all adds up to more than 300 possible style combinations, as consumers can also customize the Moto 360 with swappable bezels.
Although the Moto 360’s hardware button has been moved to the 2 o’clock position for comfort, the first generation’s black shelf at the bottom of the watch face remains. It enables the smartwatch’s heart-rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, and barometer.
The new watch faces have “Live Dials” that can be set to display useful tools such as weather, step count, and app shortcuts. Soon, developers will be able to create their own Live Dials for their products, says Motorola.
The Moto 360 Sport offers unique features that its Moto siblings don’t, including an on-board GPS that tracks distance and maps runs, and an LCD AnyLight display that adapts to its surrounding light, allowing wearers to see the watch face indoors or outdoors in the sun. The Moto Body application also tracks calories and provides motivation during workouts.
Running on the Android Wear OS, the 42mm size for men and women has a battery of 300mAh and can last up to about a day and a half between charges. The 46mm men’s size has a battery of 400mAh and can last for up to two days without charging, according to Motorola. And with a handy wireless dock, charging the Moto 360 is easy and convenient.
The men’s and women’s version of the Moto 360 are available for preorder from Motorola’s website starting today. The Moto 360 Sport modei is expected to be available later this year.
