Lenovo previews two-screen Magic View concept smartwatch

This week, Lenovo held its first-ever global tech event, Lenovo Tech World. There the company showed off a prototype of a unique new smartwatch, dubbed Magic View, powered by the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

The magic for the Lenovo Magic View smartwatch lies in its solution to the size limitations of most smartwatches. After all, there’s only so much you can fit on a wearable watch-size display. The Magic View sports a round screen, like you’ve seen on other models, but then goes further. On the band beneath the round screen is a Virtual Interactive Display (VID) that is truly magic.  When you look closely at the VID screen, you see what appears to be a large screen image—more than 20 times larger than the actual display. All types of content—photos, maps, and even videos—can be viewed on this screen, which like the watch's main display, is powered by the Qualcomm Adreno 306 GPU.

Lenovo also had a couple other smart-device concepts at the show. Smart Shoes incorporate sensors that track the wearer’s biometrics and activity—and also reflect the wearer’s mood on a small screen. And the Smart Cast is a phone that doubles as a laser projector, letting the user project a virtual touch-screen workspace on the nearest table, for example.

The company hasn’t announced U.S. pricing or availability yet for these concepts, instead asking for feedback from influencers at the event. We’re looking forward to trying them all.
