The LG Watch Urbane is a stylish all-metal, sophisticated update to the well received, more casual LG G Watch R. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, with 4GB of internal storage and 512MB RAM, this smartwatch runs on the Android Wear operating system which works with smartphones running Android 4.3 or above. The device supports notifications, including messages and weather updates, and sports a PPG sensor to measure heart rate and pulse—all of which can be accessed on the 1.3-inch P-OLED touch screen display.
LG also announced another version of this new wearable, the LG Watch Urbane LTE. As the name suggests, this version will have advanced connectivity features like 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0LE, and NFC in addition to the leading edge LTE connectivity integrated into the Snapdragon processor. For those fitness fashionistas, this addition means staying connected with voice calls and text even on the slopes, or when navigating a mountain bike down winding paths. Plus, NFC allows for payments using a virtual wallet without needing to fish for a smartphone.
As a suitably modern fashion accessory, the LG Watch Urbane is a low-key pairing of the latest smart tech with the classic sensibilities of a mechanical timepiece. As Juno Cho, President and CEO of LG Mobile, explained, the “LG Watch Urbane is an important part of LG Mobile’s strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.” This strategy is apparent in details like the customizable 22mm leather wristband which can be switched out if needed, and the dust and water resistant stainless steel frame available in polished silver and gold finish.
As for the LTE version, Cho claims that “this smartwatch breaks new ground with the world’s first LTE connectivity and the real-watch styling of a high-end modern classic watch.” While the LG Watch R is for casual wear and for active users, the high-end LG Urbane is better suited for formal occasions. Each serves a different purpose and could be purchased to complement one another.
