Last week NETGEAR launched a powerful player in the gaming and mobile connectivity worlds, the Nighthawk X4 AC2350 Smart WiFi Router. The Nighthawk X4 is the first commercially available product to use the Qualcomm® Internet Processor (IPQ), which supports blazing-fast performance with minimal power consumption.

With a special focus on gaming and video streaming, the Nighthawk X4 is designed for even the most demanding users. According to NETGEAR, it delivers one of the fastest Wi-Fi connections of any router available today, and uses the Qualcomm Internet Processor to bring better performance and power efficiency to home networks. To make the most of a home’s Internet connection, NETGEAR offers Dynamic Quality of Service (QoS) features based on Qualcomm® StreamBoost™ technology, which manages Internet traffic to ensure uninterrupted, lag-free gaming and streaming experiences on any connected device. Instead of treating all connections the same, Dynamic QoS identifies each application or device and makes sure that each one has sufficient bandwidth.

By using IPQ, the Nighthawk X4 benefits from a dual-core network processor (which handles the heavy duty networking tasks),  plus the same dual-core Krait CPU found in certain Snapdragon™ processors and already used in millions of mobile devices worldwide (which can run apps and services with the efficiency of a smartphone). Together, these enable Wi-Fi networks to handle the most demanding Internet-based functions like video streaming, data sharing, browsing and gaming across multiple devices.

The home networks of tomorrow may have as many as 22 connected devices, if not more—including TVs, tablets, gaming consoles, and smartphones—and Nighthawk X4 is more than capable of keeping everything up to speed, without running up the electricity bill. The Qualcomm Internet Processor cuts down the network’s power consumption by adjusting the power for varying usage conditions. This allows the router to operate at full capacity only when it needs to. In short, it won’t waste energy 24/7.

The Nighthawk X4 is already on its way to powering tomorrow’s smart home: Equipped with the NETGEAR genie application, a user can easily connect and control their home network from a PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet. This gives them the capability to share and stream music and videos, set up parental controls, and even diagnose and repair network issues.

The Nighthawk X4 AC2350 Smart WiFi Router is available through online retailers like Newegg and Amazon.
