Sony has introduced the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, their lightest and slimmest tablet device yet. While this ultra-portable tablet may be light it doesn’t skimp on durability. The display is made of a scratch-resistant tempered glass, it’s dust and water resistant and the tablet’s corners are stainless steel.

The Z3 Tablet Compact weighs only 270 grams (about 9.5 ounces) and is 6.44mm thick (roughly one-quarter of an inch). Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processor and running on Android 4.4 (KitKat), this device has a 1080p display, 8.1 megapixel rear-facing camera, and 3GB of RAM.

A powerful Snapdragon 801 processor paired with an ultra-fast 4G LTE modem is designed to make the Z3 Tablet Compact one of the fastest tablets available. Additionally, with one-touch mirroring, users can seamlessly share content from their tablet to their Bluetooth-connected Sony Bravia TV. Similarly, the tablet can instantly connect to a compatible speaker or headset for the user’s listening enjoyment.

With a hat tip to the hardcore gamers out there, starting in November 2014, this device will be compatible with PlayStation Remote Play, a feature exclusive to Xperia smartphones and tablets. PS Remote Play lets the player access PS4 games straight from their mobile device, seamlessly switching from their PS4 console to their tablet for an unprecedented mobile gaming experience. And with the Game Control Mount GCM10, players can mount their Xperia device directly to a Dualshock 4 controller.

Thanks to the tablet’s long battery life it can provide up to 13 hours of video playback or up to 200 hours of music playback, while the Active Battery STAMINA Mode can keep it going even longer. In fact, using only standby mode, the battery can last up to an astounding 1,220 hours. When enabled, STAMINA Mode can intuitively turn off apps when the user isn’t using the device, while still retaining the function to access the user’s important messages, calls and preferred app notifications.

The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is available in black or white, and is expected to be available this fall.
