Samsung GALAXY Tab S: a beautiful display and the content to fill it

Samsung recently introduced the Samsung GALAXY Tab S, the latest flagship offering in their extensive line of tablets. The Tab S comes in two sizes—8.4-inches (pictured above) and 10.5-inches (below)—with the LTE variants powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor, available in either Titanium Bronze or Dazzling White.

Eschewing the plastic frame of previous GALAXY Tabs, Samsung added a sleek metal body to the Tab S, while managing to keep both sizes only 0.26-inches thick, resulting in their thinnest and lightest tablets to date. The larger 10.5-inch model weighs just over a pound, while the smaller 8.4-inch version tips the scale at a bit over 10 ounces.

Both tablets feature a 2560 x 1600 pixel display in a less-common 16:10 aspect ratio—meaning they have a slightly wider body than many other popular tablets, such as the Nexus 7.  The resolution on each size tablets’ displays is impressive, with the smaller tablet boasting a pixel density of 287 ppi.

The SuperAMOLED screen, which has become something of a mainstay for Samsung phones, has been upgraded with advanced outdoor visibility. The same technology is found on their popular flagship smartphone,  theGALAXY S5 , with the phone adjusting the white balance of the screen depending on various lighting conditions to guarantee pure whites. In addition, Samsung’s SuperAMOLED screens have long been known for their deep blacks and with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, the GALAXY Tab S promises incredible rendition throughout the whole color spectrum.

To help you get the most out of the screen, Samsung is doing its best to make content readily available. The company has optimized their Milk music service and debuted their Papergarden magazine marketplace for the Tab S, and has tweaked the content to take full advantage of the SuperAMOLED screen. Also included is GALAXY GiftsGogo In-Flight Wi-Fi, and a variety of temporary subscriptions to Bloomberg BusinessWeekThe Wall Street JournalThe Washington PostThe New York TimesSirius XM RadioAudible, and more.

Both GALAXY Tab S sizes come with your choice of 16GB or 32GB of built-in memory, with a micoSD card slot for expandable storage up to 128GB. The devices have 3GB of RAM onboard, and boast an 8 MP rear-facing camera complemented by a 2.1 MP on the front.

LTE models of the Samsung GALAXY Tab S are expected to come to all four U.S. major carriers later this year.
