Phone or tablet, the Asus PadFone X lets you choose

Chances are, your phone and tablet don’t stray far from each other. One might sit in your bag, and the other in your pocket. But they’re mobile devices, you take them everywhere, and the same hardware powers both. So why not combine the two?

That’s the thinking behind the Asus PadFone X. It’s a phone and a tablet. Or, more accurately, it’s a phone that also powers a tablet. It gives users the freedom of choice—all supported by a Snapdragon processor.

The phone itself is powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor featuring a quad-core 2.3 GHz CPU, touts a 5-inch 1080p screen, and a 13 MP camera. That would be impressive enough on it’s own. But slide the phone into the back of the tablet and suddenly the phone’s screen comes alive on the tablet’s 9-inch full HD display.

The transition is virtually instant. If something makes more sense to view on a bigger screen (such as mobile videos, calendar, or even news) just slide the phone into the back of the tablet, and the display is instantly optimized for tablet viewing.

What’s more, because the tablet features its own battery, the life of the device is effectively doubled—from 20 hours on it’s own, to 54 hours when plugged into the tablet. And since the only device using data is the phone itself, there’s only a single device on your data plan.

It’s two device experiences in one—all for a single price of $199 on a two-year contract. Pre-orders are available now at AT&T.
