First two Android Wear smartwatches revealed today – both powered by Snapdragon processors

At Google’s annual Google I/O developer conference today, the first smartwatches based on the highly anticipated Android Wear operating system for wearable devices debuted to great acclaim. Sleek new smartwatches from both LG (pictured above) and Samsung feature the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 processor with integrated CPU, GPU, DSP and sensor processing. The Snapdragon 400 processor has already been adopted by numerous leading smartphone manufacturers, and its inclusion at the heart of these new smartwatches clearly demonstrates its versatility and efficiency. The Snapdragon 400 processor is highly flexible, allowing it to be optimized to support the unique power and size needs of wearables.

The new Android Wear operating system is built specifically for wearable devices, and features a “card” style interface, giving just the information you need, when you need it. Android Wear is tightly integrated with voice recognition for easy, natural interactions. Using Bluetooth to connect to your Android smartphone (Jelly Bean 4.3 or higher required) these new watches bring you “glance-able” notification of your messages, caller ID, and application notification like your calendar, social media apps, and virtually anything else on your Android smartphone that uses the notification bar. Using just your voice and “OK Google” you can search, control your music, send messages, or even place calls.

The button-less design of the LG G Watch allows for a clean, minimalist design and simple, intuitive interface. It seamlessly connects to your smartphone and features an always-on screen, so you don’t even need to get your smartphone out of your purse or pocket to read your messages, and even respond by voice. Available in either Black Titan or White Gold, you can personalize it with any standard 22mm band; and is water resistant for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter. The LG G Watch is available for pre-order at $229.

Samsung’s newest addition to their wearables line, the Samsung Gear Live™ (above) watch features a built-in activity tracker and heart rate monitor that will work seamlessly with multiple fitness-related apps. Additionally, the Gear Live features an always-on super AMOLED display and will come in two colors: Black or Wine Red. It also offers easy customization of the clock face and a simple, one-touch wakeup function.

It too features a standard 22mm band and one-meter-for-30-minutes water resistance. The Samsung Gear Live is available for pre-order at $199.

Both watches feature all-day battery life thanks in part to the powerful yet efficient Snapdragon 400 processor, and are available for pre-order in selected regions on the Google Play storestarting today.
