The LG G3: A flagship phone that wants to get to know you

LG G3 smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processors

Introducing the LG G3, the South Korean manufacturer’s latest flagship device. Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processor and running Android 4.4.2 KitKat; the G3’s true strength lies in its array of behavior tracking software.

Smart Notice monitors your app usage and locations, and makes recommendations to keep you connected with friends and organized at work, based on your schedule and habits. Smart Cleaning identifies little-used apps and files, and removes the anxiety and regret that comes with deleting things. LG Health is an always-on app that monitors your daily physical activity. And if you hate running in adverse conditions, it’ll even alert you to changing weather conditions.

The G3 is no slouch in the photography department. Its 13MP camera touts flagship-quality optical image stabilization to combat shaky hands, while Laser Auto Focus uses—you guessed it—a laser for faster focus in low light.

Selfies get special treatment, too. The G3’s front-facing camera features a clever gesture-controlled shutter. Raise your hand, turn it into a fist, and the phone starts a 3-second shutter timer. And to compensate for the smaller image sensor, the G3’s display doubles as flash—when enabled, the screen’s border illuminates, and lights your face a little more evenly compared to traditional flashes.

Speaking of the screen: The virtually edge-to-edge display packs a dense 534ppi into a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen, the first of its kind to ship in the United States.

Ultimately, the combination of the G3’s processing power and camera features, alongside its behavior monitoring capabilities, makes it an interesting competitor in a competitive flagship smartphone segment. Not only is it a capable phone, it’s a capable phone that adapts to you— whether you’re at work, at home or socializing with friends and family.

The LG G3 goes on sale May 28 in South Korea. Details on a U.S. release are soon to follow.
