Microsoft’s DirectX 12 gaming environment, announced today, allows Windows Phone programmers to build mobile games with incredible 3D graphics. And those graphics will run amazingly well on Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors.
Qualcomm Technologies has worked closely with Microsoft to optimize the Windows mobile operating systems to harness the advanced graphics capabilities of Snapdragon’s Adreno™ GPU and its other integrated technologies. The results: mobile games with immersive 3D images.
The current Snapdragon processors already support DirectX 9.3 and DirectX 11”. To see it in action, check out the Nokia Lumia 1520. This Windows Phone, featuring our flagship Snapdragon 800 processor, is the fastest smartphone for gaming according to the popular benchmarking suite, Rightware.
DirectX 12 will turbocharge gaming on Snapdragon enabled devices in many ways. Just a few years ago, our Snapdragon processors featured one CPU core, now most Snapdragon processors offer four. The new libraries and API’s in DirectX 12 make more efficient use of these multiple cores to deliver better performance. The GPU will also be used more efficiently so performance is increased and fewer watts are consumed. That means games will look better and deliver longer gameplay longer on a single charge.
DirectX 12 is also the first version to launch on Microsoft’s mobile operating systems at the same time as its desktop and console counterparts. This emphasizes the growing shift and consumer demand for mobile gaming. And it makes it easier to port desktop and console games to mobile.
