Sony announces new flagship Xperia Z2 phone and tablet at MWC

Today at Mobile World Congress 2014 Sony announced the release of the Xperia Z2 smartphone and the Xperia Z2 tablet, both powered by the latest member of the ultra-fast, ultra-powerful Qualcomm® Snapdragon 800 processor series—the Snapdragon 801 processor. The Snapdragon 801 processor is an update to the highly popular Snapdragon 800 with several new features designed to enable enhanced mobile user experiences and overall performance, including higher quality imaging with support for larger, faster camera sensors and improved image post-processing, as well as improved mobile graphics and gaming, higher speed SD card memory, and dedicated hardware for dual-SIM/dual active (DSDA) service in China.

Sony calls the Xperia Z2 phone the world’s best camera and camcorder in a waterproof smartphone, boasting equal parts portability and durability thanks to its water and dust-proof features packed into a slim design.

The new Xperia Z2 is designed to be a media powerhouse with exceptional video and audio features that include Sony’s proven camera technologies and an advanced camcorder. A new enhanced video mode capturing Ultra HD resolution at four times Full HD, and a 20.7 MP camera result in superb video and photo quality. Plus, the Xperia Z2 is packed with digital noise-cancelling support for truer to life listening.

The Xperia Z2 comes preloaded with a host of innovations including a new Timeshift video mode that shoots 120 frames per second and allows users to select scenes to slow the playback speed for dramatic slow motion effects, even underwater. New augmented reality (AR) animations will also be available for video recording including sound effects for video.

The Xperia Z2 tablet is similarly groundbreaking. According to Sony, it’s the world’s slimmest and lightest waterproof tablet, and is the world’s first tablet display with Live Colour LED. It also boasts the ultra-fast, ultra-efficient Snapdragon 801 processor.

The fully integrated Snapdragon 801 processor is designed to deliver high performance without draining the battery and integrates the industry’s only 3rd generation 4G LTE modem for online content that streams faster and smoother. Content can also look incredibly sharp on the 10.1” Full HD TRILUMINOS display for mobile matched with Sony’s exclusive Live Colour LED technology and their X-Reality for mobile intelligent picture engine that analyzes each image for optimal color, sharpness and contrast while super resolution reproduces missing pixels to provide the ultimate viewing experience.

The large 6000mAh ion battery, together with Sony’s Battery STAMINA Mode, provides up to 10 hours of uninterrupted multimedia usage and more than 100 hours of music playback without having to recharge your battery.
