Watch The World's Fastest Rubik's Cube Solving Robot

Built from Legos and running on Android, the Cube Stormer II is faster than any human at solving the world’s most confounding puzzle.

Dubbed the Cubestormer II, the world’s fastest Rubik’s Cube–solving robot drew big crowds in the exhibit area at the 2013 FIRST Competition in St. Louis (a robotics competition for kids ages 6 to 18). Built and programmed by UK-based Mike Dobson and David Gilday, the robot is constructed from four Lego Mindstorm NXT kits, controlled by a tricked-out Android app running on a smartphone.

As reported by Wired UK in a November 11, 2011 report, “The robot, in the presence of the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, shaved a massive 58.73 seconds off the previous world record of 64 seconds, which was set two years ago. The time to beat now stands at 5.270 seconds.”
