A Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip is “The Best Mobile Processor of 2012”

Does your phone have this award-winning chip inside?

The top performing Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 processor is the “Best Mobile Processor of 2012,” taking top honors in a prominent research firm’s annual Analysts’ Choice Award.

The Linley Group, an independent research group best known for publishing the Microprocessor Report, gave the award to the Qualcomm MSM8960.  That’s the top-tier Snapdragon S4 processor found in dozens of devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S III (USA), HTC One X (AT&T), Motorola RAZR M, and Nokia Lumia 920.

The processor won due to its performance, innovation in Wi-Fi integration, and time-to-market advantage for 28nm technology, says Principal Analyst Linley Gwennap.  Qualcomm Snapdragon processors integrate many different cellphone components onto a single, tiny chip.  That gives them both impressive power and best-in-class battery life—in short, benchmark-busting performance.

If you think the 8960 is great, wait until you see what’s up next.  The new Snapdragon 800 and 600 processors—which will be found in devices coming out this summer – pack even more performance into a powerful package that can deliver up to 75% better performance than their predecessors. (To learn more, check out the Snapdragon website.)

In the meantime, check here to see if the chip of the year is in your pocket.
