Last week we hosted an exclusive screening of Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, along with help from our friends at BIOCOM, CommNexus, CONNECT, and the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance. Our goal of showing the film was to bring together leaders from across the health care and technology spectrum to take a closer look at our national health care crisis.

Going into the screening, most of us were aware of the drastic situation the United States health care system is currently in. Like the fact that we spend a higher percentage of our gross domestic product on health care than any other country in the world, but are not even ranked in the top 20 for mortality rates. The film highlighted these statistics, but really focused on the need for us to think completely differently and change the conversation around health care.

Bill Clinton recently called out San Diego on the Daily Showwith Jon Stewart and applauded our ability to collaborate across the public and private sectors and the research and work we have done to advance the communications and genomics industries.

We hope the film sparks a discussion in our community, as I believe we have the ability to play a critical role in developing the innovative technologies and solutions that will help alleviate the current strain on our health care system.

If you were unable to attend our screening of Escape Fire, I highly recommend heading to theaters where the film is now showing. We will also be continuing the conversation online from @QualcommLife and @bootstrapped (my own account), and tagging tweets related to San Diego efforts with #rescuehealth.
