Qualcomm Issues Challenge to Developers for Best Metro App

At Uplinq today, Qualcomm challenged developers to create the best Windows RT Metro style app. Five winners will be chosen and awarded $200K in prizes: one overall grand prize winner and four winners in the individual categories of connectivity, gaming, productivity and the best use of AllJoyn.

This contest marks a larger trend where more and more OS providers are offering cash incentives in an attempt to accelerate innovation in the ecosystem. These types of contests not only test developer creativity but also give developers cash-fueled reasons to build immersive apps on the relatively new, but well-received Windows RT platform. Industry heavy hitters hope that cash will help beef up offerings in the Windows Marketplace to match that of Android and Apple.

If you think you have what it takes to build the best Metro-style app, submit your creation by October 1, 2012 here. Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of experts based on merits such as technology innovation and market potential. The winners will be announced at AppDevCon on October 18.
