Sarah Gibson is a Senior Engineer with Qualcomm Research’s Robotics department, where she continues to be a leader in the development of intelligent mobile systems with high levels of autonomy. Since 2012, she has developed leading-edge software for autonomous localization and navigation, obstacle mapping, motion/path planning, and reinforcement learning. Previously, she was a key engineer on Qualcomm Research’s neuromorphic computing project and her work was instrumental in the design and hardware optimization of spiking neural networks. Sarah’s efforts on that project resulted in two issued patents, “Effecting Modulation by Global Scalar Values in a Spiking Neural Network” and “Plastic Synapse Management.”
In 2012, Sarah received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UCLA. Her dissertation focused on low-power algorithms and efficient hardware implementations for neural signal processing. Sarah’s vast experience in robotics and artificial intelligence continues to make her a valuable asset to Qualcomm Research.
