The year we prepared for 5G NR commercialization.

2018 was a pivotal year in our journey to make 5G a commercial reality.

We completed 5G NR interoperability testing and conducted field trials with our ecosystem partners. We also crossed many key milestones to prepare us for commercial 5G launches, such as the mmWave RF module for smartphone form factors, in order to provide users across the globe with multi-Gigabit speeds, ultra-low latency, and virtually unlimited capacity in 2019.

8/30 Qualcomm outlines 5G vision and wireless edge to realize the full potential of 5G

The 5G connection in the 3.5 GHz spectrum band took place at Swisscom’s Dialog Arena technology showcase event in Lucerne and was conducted using a 5G CPE, the WNC MWH-5 accessing Swisscom’s 3GPP Rel-15 5G NR network based on Ericsson’s hardware and software for radio, transport and core network solutions.

12/3 Qualcomm and Nokia Complete 5G NR mmWave and Sub-6 GHz Over-the-Air (OTA) Interoperability Test Calls

Qualcomm Technologies and Nokia announced that they have successfully achieved over-the-air (OTA) 5G NR data calls in both the mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum bands. Compliant with the global 3GPP 5G NR Release 15 specification in NSA (Non-Standalone) mode, the interoperability testing milestones were completed at Nokia’s 5G center of excellence in Oulu, Finland using commercially available Nokia AirScale base stations and a mobile smartphone form-factor test device powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X50 5G modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements.
