Cristiano Amon will be joined by Aamir Hussain, SVP Chief Product Officer, Verizon, for a fireside chat moderated by Jeff Lorbeck.

The Smart Cities 2020 Accelerate keynote will be a virtual conversation between Cristiano Amon and Aamir Hussain, moderated by Jeff Lorbeck, to discuss the intersection of 5G and Smart Cities. With the proliferation of "smart devices" and the roll-out of 5G globally, IoT is ripe for commercialization. Through the discussion, we'll get a better understanding of the critical role 5G will play in the future of Smart Cities and Smart Connected Spaces, and will hear from the foundational technology and carrier perspectives about how to embrace the change.

Aamir Hussain is senior vice president of business products who recently joined Verizon in December 2019. Aamir has nearly three decades of experience implementing global technology operations, innovation, complex infrastructures, consumer and business solutions and digital transformation. He is responsible for Verizon Business Groups holistic enterprise product families -including IoT and 5G services, networking solutions, security, advanced communications services, and managed and professional services -and will lead product management across all customer segments.

She has been in the wireless industry for over 20 years and specializes in marketing, branding, and building member communities. Since 2018, Michelle has been leading program development at CTIA and has championed member collaboration to solve for some of the greatest challenges in the wireless industry. Michelle values the opportunity to drive new services for the wireless industry and sees the adoption of IoT as a roadmap to increase connectivity, improve safety, and maximize efficiencies for the services and solutions shaping our communities today.

Talin Aghazarian

Talin brings to Modus a variety of planning skills and experience, having worked as a planner at the municipal level as well as in a variety of corporate planning positions for over 20 years. In the early years of her career, she held planning positions for a variety of cities in Northern California as well as working as a Planning Manager for the West Coast Region New Build and Store Expansion projects for Target Corporation. Talin began her experience in the Wireless Industry in 2000. She has worked on all types of wireless projects including new builds, site modifications, oDAS, and small cells. She has worked for several Bay Area carriers including AT&T, MetroPCS, and T-Mobile. Talin holds a B.A. in Urban Studies with a Minor in Art History for the University of California at Berkeley. 

Ariel Brassil

Ariel Brassil is the Director of Strategy for AT&T Smart Cities & Communities, where she leads the team responsible for shaping the go-to-market strategy, business development, and adoption of smart cities and communities. Prior to this role, Ariel led communications, strategic projects, and citizenship & sustainability initiatives for AT&T’s Smart Cities organization since 2017. Ariel has a diverse background in engaging customers and ecosystem partners to realize the transformative effects of emerging technology such as 5G and IoT. Ariel received her BA in German and International Business from the University of Tennessee and her MBA in Operations Management from the University of Georgia. Ariel is also a Fulbright scholar and has taught and lived in Germany on multiple occasions. Ariel is passionate about environmental stewardship and community engagement and volunteers with several organizations including Pi Beta Phi Women’s Fraternity and Women of AT&T Atlanta, where she has served on the board since 2016.

Dr. Brenda Connor

Dr. Brenda Connor has been with Ericsson since 1994 and is providing thought leadership in 4G/5G ecosystems for secure enterprise, smart city, & Industrial IoT use cases. Passionate about scalable go-to-market approaches that benefit from IoT data-driven outcomes requiring secure and reliable data delivery and insights. Business Model innovator, security expert, and data scientist. Connor is a change maker for the Networked Society, where every individual and every industry is enabled to reach its true potential. Proven track record of building successful solutions for real time command & control and vertical use cases including a defense-in-depth security approach based on NIST Cybersecurity Framework and Industrial Control Systems guidelines.

Connor holds a B.S. and a M.S in Computer Engineering from Boston University, a PhD in Engineering Management and has been awarded 2 patents in the open ecosystem space.

Karen Lightman

Karen Lightman is Executive Director of Metro21: Smart Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Karen is an internationally recognized leader in building and supporting communities based on emerging technologies. She is well-regarded in the MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems) industry, having helped start and then lead MEMS & Sensors Industry Group (MSIG), the largest industry consortium solely focused on MEMS and sensors. Under her leadership, MSIG covered every sector of the MEMS value chain and successfully orchestrated numerous annual international conferences, workshops and tradeshows. Karen led the successful acquisition of MSIG by SEMI, the world’s largest semiconductor association. Karen has expertise with commercializing academic research, building industry-based consortiums and strategically leading teams to explore market-based opportunities. Her diverse background spans the consumer, military, healthcare, manufacturing, and automotive sectors. Karen is ranked by EETimes as one of the top 25 “Women in Tech.”  She is a passionate advocate and spokesperson for technology solutions to real-world problems and has held several board positions and is currently treasurer on the board of the MetroLab Network. Karen has a BA from the University of Vermont (UVM) and a MS in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College. She and her family reside in Pittsburgh, PA.
