Alex Katouzian currently serves as senior vice president and general manager of the Mobile, Compute and Infrastructure (MCI) Business Unit at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. In this role, Katouzian is responsible for the profit, loss and strategy of the MCI BU, which includes business lines for Mobile Handset Products and Application Processor Technologies, 4G and 5G Mobile Broadband for embedded applications, Small and Macro Cells, Modem Technologies, Compute products across multiple OS’, eXtended Reality and AI Edge Cloud products.

Katouzian has been in the wireless and multimedia semiconductor system industry for over 30 years. Prior to joining Qualcomm, he held various management positions at Brooktree Corporation and Conexant Systems, where he developed complete chipsets, software, and system solutions for multimedia, graphics, consumer electronics, and cellular handsets.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego with an emphasis in Semiconductor Physics.

Susan M. Armstrong

Susan M. Armstrong started at Qualcomm working on Globalstar and then early CDMA base station projects. She was a pioneer in bringing internet protocols to the cellular industry, resulting in the first web surfing on a cellular phone in 1997, and Qualcomm’s commercialization of packet data in 1998. Since then she has held various leadership positions, first responsible for the development and commercialization of the all of the software that drives Qualcomm's chipsets, and then as the head of worldwide Customer Engineering. In addition to her work on Qualcomm's inventions and new technologies, she has worked extensively with base station makers, carriers, phone and device makers in the US, Asia and Europe to bring those technologies to market.
In 2015, Armstrong has joined Qualcomm’s Government Affairs group, where she brings an engineering and product background the Government Affairs work in worldwide public policy, including intellectual property protection, cyber security, STEM and STEM diversity.

Vanitha Kumar

Vanitha Kumar is a Vice President of Software Engineering at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Vanitha has 24 years of experience in the wireless telecommunications industry and in embedded software architecture, design, and development. In her current role at Qualcomm, Vanitha leads the modem software air interface technology software team which includes 5G, 4G-LTE, Cellular IoT and C-V2X across multiple global locations. She also has vast experience leading multiple generation of cellular modem chipsets and working closely with customers, vendors, and cellular carriers to enable launch of many devices and technologies. She has about 200 granted patents in the US and abroad. Vanitha holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor of Electronics & Communication Engineering degree from PSG College of Technology, India.

Vanitha is passionate about the role of women in science and technology. She is on the board of Qualcomm Foundation in charge of Corporate Giving. She is also on the board of Elementary Institute of Science which is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing exposure and interest in STEM careers among young children. She is a frequent speaker and panelist in several technology and industry forums and conferences. Vanitha is the recipient of Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA)’s inaugural “Rising Woman of Influence” award in 2018 and the YWCA TWIN (Women in Tech Industry) San Diego award in 2016.

Brian Mecum
Vice President, Device Technology


Brian Mecum is vice president for Verizon, the largest wireless company in the United States, and oversees the Device Technology organization driving the device ecosystem for future network evolution (LTE-M, NB-IoT, CBRS, 5G, etc.) while optimizing existing device performance and architecture. He is responsible for tracking Verizon and industry network technology plans and ensuring that the connected objects roadmap (across business channels) is enabled to support the technical and business needs of the corporation. In this role, he works in collaboration with Network Planning to ensure device alignment with network future-state infrastructure and capabilities, in collaboration with OEMs and device manufacturing stakeholders to identify and address new-device requirements of the network and also in collaboration with standards bodies (3GPP, GSMA, etc.) to lead development of industry standards for new products and device technology. In addition, Brian also manages the sports-tech partnership initiative for Verizon. Brian is working closely with the NFL, NHL, and NBA to create 5G content and enriched next-gen experiences for Verizon consumers.

Mecum is passionate about ushering in future technologies and cultivating new talent via leadership conferences for women and high potentials, and takes an active role in STEM outreach programs.

Prior to his current position, Brian held the position of West Territory Network Vice President for Verizon Wireless where he had responsibilities for industry-leading voice and data networks for 28 states including 9 of the largest, most dense cities in the United States. 

Brian holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Arizona with a minor in Chemical Engineering.

Naoki Tani
Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Naoki Tani has been leading the R&D Innovation Division since June 2020. He is responsible for the entire R&D activities of NTT DOCOMO, including radio, mobile core, terminals, and services, and for the creation of a vision of future mobile systems and services. Prior to the current assignment, he was Managing Director of IoT Business Department from June 2014, where he was responsible for marketing strategy, service planning, business development, and technical support of IoT business for 6 years. While in charge of IoT business duties, Mr. Tani also assumed the role of Senior Vice President of NTT DOCOMO in 2017. Mr. Tani started his career at NTT in April 1989, where he was involved in the initial development and deployment of mobile communications network systems. He has continued his responsibility for network development and deployment also after moved to NTT DOCOMO upon its establishment in July 1992, while shifting his focus of activity to international standardization, development, and deployment of 3G (W-CDMA) and LTE network systems. Mr. Tani graduated from Tokyo University with a Master of Engineering in 1989 and from Duke University with a Master of Business Administration in 1997.

Santiago Tenorio

Yago leads the Network Architecture team in Vodafone, whose role is to define the Fixed and Mobile Network Strategy for all markets, represent Vodafone at all industry bodies and drive the Network architecture and the vendor selection for the Access, Transmission, Transport and Core Network as well as for the Service Layer. Aside to his role in Vodafone Yago is the Chairman of the TIP Board, where Vodafone also chairs an important number of projects.

His team is located in Madrid, Newbury, London, Milan and Ivrea and their current most important mission is to lead the company into the Network as a Platform transformation, keep driving Open RAN in the industry and shape the 5G evolution, including AI and Low Latency services.

With over 12 years of history, the team is recognized as one of the most innovative and influential ones in the Mobile Industry – endorsed by more than 150 patents and well known developments such as Single RAN, achievements like launching the World 1st NB-IoT Network (Jan 2017), the World 1st Massive MIMO live deployment (MWC2017) , the World first BVLOS drone flight identified, monitored and controlled by the mobile network (Oct 2017), the 1st 5G Standard Data Call (Feb 2018), or the world’s first connection of a 5G smartphone to the mobile network (Feb 2019), that led to the initial Vodafone 5G launches from May 2019, the World’s first urban drone flight controlled through the 5G commercial network (Jan 2020), the Europe’s first 5G stand-alone call on commercial handset (Feb 2020) and the Open RAN Industry leadership, that has driven Vodafone being the first European operator to announce RAN deployment plans (Nov 2020).

Prior to this role, Yago was CNO in Vodafone UK (2010-2013) where he led the transformation of the team supporting acquisition of C&W, resulting on fastest launch of the company’s 4G Network, and outstanding performance during the London 2012 Olympics. Before that, he was CTO in Vodafone IE (2009-2010), delivering a turnaround programme that moved the NW from 4th in Ireland to undisputed 1st position.
