PROGRAMS
Wireless Reach programs showcase new and innovative ways that cutting-edge mobile technologies can be used to help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the social and economic priorities of communities and governments globally since 2006, Wireless Reach programs have impacted more than 20 million people.
Education is a key driver for growth, economic development and the advancement of societies. Wireless technologies can bring high-quality education to all communities, regardless of income status or location. Wireless Reach supports the potential of “always on, always connected” mobile devices to dramatically improve teaching and learning.
Advanced wireless technologies are driving global entrepreneurship. By providing people in urban and rural areas with the ability to communicate with one another, access market information, sell products across geographic areas, reach new consumers and access mobile payment systems, they’re enabling financial inclusion and reducing inequalities.
Wireless technology is more than an enabler — it’s a multiplier and game changer. In the health care industry, advanced mobile broadband technologies are being used to enable point-of-care devices to provide access to information, reduce costs, increase efficiencies, facilitate remote care in even the most resource-scarce settings, and better connect people to their health care providers.
A strong wireless broadband network and mobile technologies are becoming increasingly indispensable tools for ensuring public safety and creating resilient communities. They’re being used to enable access to critical information and communication between mobile users and law enforcement, decrease crime rates, increase emergency response times, aid in disaster preparedness and response, and enhance speed and accuracy in decision-making.
Innovative mobile technologies have the power to improve the state of our environment. Already, technology coupled with real-time data is helping drive rapid and effective responses to environmental challenges. They’re being used to address various factors exacerbating climate change, from informing individual-level actions regarding resource management to using big data to transform industry practices and shape new policies.
Mobile can empower women and transform their lives by providing access to information, services, health information and care, financial services, and job opportunities. Accelerating women's ownership of mobile phones provides life-changing information and services for women in underserved communities. Bridging the gender gap in mobile usage ultimately brings the benefits of mobile to women, their families, and communities.
