FM Radio Overview

Qualcomm offers both FM Receive (RX) and Transmit (TX) functionality for mobile phone solutions that use Qualcomm's chipsets. These highly integrated FM solutions are specifically designed for low-power operation as well as to meet stringent mobile phone requirements in a small form factor. Both RX and TX functionalities support Radio Data Service (RDS) and the ability for users to filter RDS information, record FM and use smart-tuning options to find desired stations.

Benefits

FM RX/TX support enables users to listen to FM radio on their mobile phones through a wired headset, over the phone speaker or via a Bluetooth connection. The FM TX functionality is used to transfer music files from the mobile phone to nearby FM receivers in automobiles, homes and wherever FM receivers are located.

Qualcomm FM solutions offer:

  • Cost-effective implementation of FM capabilities for handset manufacturers.
  • Minimal impact on battery life due to off-loading of RDS processing from the application processor.
  • Turnkey capabilities that are fully integrated, tested and verified on Qualcomm platforms.
  • Fully verified reference designs that reduce OEM development time, engineering resource requirements and time-to-market risk.
