Qualcomm Snapdragon processors make gaming news with Unity and GDC

At Qualcomm®, we don't just work closely with the manufacturers of your smartphones; we also like to stay close with app developers. We give them tools and information that will allow them to optimize their apps to work for Snapdragon™ powered phones so that they take advantage of all that our graphics have to offer and to make apps as power efficient as possible.

One of the key types of app developers that we talk to are game developers – after all, a lot of your favorite apps are games. And we're serious about finding as many ways as we can to get you the best possible mobile games.

As a part of that outreach:

  • This week we are at the 2013 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. GDC brings together game designers, publishers, and other key decision makers in the gaming industry all in one place to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry. Even if you're not a game developer, there are lots of things to be excited about, since the work ultimately leads to higher-quality and more power efficient games for your smartphone.
  • Yesterday we announced an exciting collaboration with Unity Technologies that will help us bring top-level mobile gaming experiences to Snapdragon powered devices. As a result of this unique cooperation, over 1.5 million Unity technologies registered developers will be empowered to create and deploy dynamic gaming experiences with high-end graphics for many Snapdragon based Android and Windows devices across the world, with some available later this year.
  • We're hosting a "Qualcomm Lounge" at GDC, a place where show attendees can relax, play some games, and get an espresso or a power drink.

If you're at the show, be sure to stop by to see Pro-gamers TSM Snapdragon. You can go behind-the-scenes of their daily lives each week on GameCrib, and now meet them in person. Brian "TheOddOne" Wylle, Alex "Xpecial" Chu, Andy "Reginald" Dinh, Marcus "Dyrus" Hill, and Shan "Chaox" Huang will be walking the expo floor Wednesday, March 27, and signing autographs at our lounge at 4pm. Who knows – maybe they'll play a game or two with you.

Also in the lounge you can see, touch, and learn about the latest Snapdragon processors featuring amazing graphics, built from the ground up for no-compromise mobile gaming experiences.

You'll be able to play Reign of Amira: The Lost Kingdom from Snapdragon Game Studio.  It's a preloaded game on the HTC Droid DNA from Verizon Wireless, and is now available for download on select new Snapdragon S4 and Snapdragon 600 powered devices. And don't forget to see the same 4K UltraHD theater with 7.1 surround sound that we debuted at CES. This is the future, and you won't want to miss it.

GDC, meet the Game Crib crew: TSM Snapdragon

These are just some of the things that we're doing to make sure that gaming on your next smartphone is even better than what it is today. Follow @Snapdragon on Twitter and the Snapdragon blog for updates from the GDC and the future of mobile gaming.
