LG Unveils Blockbuster Phone with Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor

The quad-core space is heating up once again, but this time it’s with the real deal from Snapdragon.

LG announced its quad-core handset, the Optimus G, at a New York event on Wednesday, deciding to enter this illustrious space with Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor. There’s been a flurry of quad-core devices launching of late, but what makes the Snapdragon S4 Pro so appealing is that it’s the most advanced Snapdragon processor to date, thanks to four Krait CPU cores and a powerful Adreno 320 GPU. For the time being, this combination puts the Optimus G in a technology leadership position among its quad-core brethrens.

The LG Optimus G is quite the eye-catcher, as it packs a 4.7-inch True HD IPS+ display, with a 320ppi pixel density, and designed with as little bezel as possible so that the front looks like it’s all screen. The back of the case has a carbon fiber- like design that rivals some of the best looking cases in the world.

Drop-dead gorgeous looks aside, one of the G’s most notable features is its 13 Megapixel rear-facing camera, featuring the smallest image sensor in the world at 1.1um. Other camera highlights include “Time Catch Slot,” a burst mode feature that allows the user to choose the best picture from a 5-set and “Cheese Shutter,” which snaps a photo by recognizing voice commands such as cheese and kimchi.

Built-in LTE connectivity is another component that places the Optimus G in a unique position, as lightning fast 4G connectivity is something that competing quad-core designs are lacking. The beefy 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor is the key piece of the Optimus G, providing unprecedented performance numbers while saving enough power so that its 2100mAh battery can outlast the competition.

That said, it’s an elite smartphone in every respect, and worth keeping an eye out for in the next month or so.
