Uplink Transmit Diversity
Uplink transmit diversity (ULTD) schemes employ more than one transmit antenna at the user equipment (UE) to improve the uplink transmission performance.
Benefits of ULTD schemes include:
- Reducing the UE transmit power
- Increasing the cell coverage range
- Increasing the UE data rate
- Or a combination of the above
Qualcomm Research has performed extensive research in this area including systems simulations, prototyping, lab tests and Over The Air (OTA) performance evaluations. A detail of this research is available in the video and whitepaper on this page.
Qualcomm was also the first in the industry to demonstrate Closed Loop ULTD performance gains for HSPA (at MWC 2010.) The feature is now a Work Item for 3GPP Release 11 with expected standardization by 2012.
