Open Market Handsets (OMH™)

OMH is an industry initiative led by the CDMA Development Group (CDG) to increase device variety and offer new channels and distribution options within the CDMA ecosystem. The OMH initiative increases CDMA handset variety, improves device time-to-market, expands distribution channels, and reduces risk for operators who don’t want handset inventory. Many Qualcomm chipsets support OMH.

Benefits

  • Improves time-to-market and eliminates operator specific testing
  • Reduces inventory risk by enabling the same device to be sold across multiple operators / markets
  • Increases amortization of higher tier device costs (via a larger addressable market)
  • Creates opportunities for new, OEM -hosted services

Technical Features

  • Supports basic voice and SMS
  • Supports advanced functionality such as packet data (both 1X and EV-DO), MMS, WAP/Browser, BREW, Java, and LBS for OMH SIM cards
  • Compatible with OMH SIM cards which are based on the 3GPP2 C.S0023-D standard
